Today's Verse

Philippians 4:5-7 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

“She’s so beautiful,” whispered Juli. She reached out and stroked the new lamb’s soft coat. The mother sheep lay in the bed of straw next to her, watching with pride.

“She is.” Dad sat back, wiping his hands on a towel.

“My favorite part of spring is all the new baby animals being born on the farm.” Juli laughed as the little lamb called for her mother.

“New life is beautiful,” Dad said. “Not just with the animals.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, people can have new life in Christ. Because of His sacrifice and resurrection, we have the opportunity to have eternal life with Him.”

Juli propped her head up on her hand. “We just have to put our faith in Him, right?”

“That’s right,” said Dad. “All we have to do is trust Him. We’re like lambs. Helpless little lambs.” He gestured to the one at their feet. “We can’t do anything for ourselves. We need Jesus to take care of us.”

The mother sheep nudged her baby, letting her know she was there. The lamb stopped bleating and nestled her head into her mother’s curly coat.

“Just like this baby relies on her mom for food, warmth, and comfort, we can trust Jesus to provide for us,” said Dad. “He supplies us with everything we need.”

Juli giggled. “That lamb doesn’t look worried at all.”

“Exactly. We don’t have to worry either.” Dad smiled at her. “Do you remember the hymn we sometimes sing in church called ‘’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus’?”

“Yes!” said Juli. “The one that goes, ‘’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word’?”

Dad nodded. “‘Just to rest upon His promise, just to know ‘Thus saith the Lord!’” He finished the lyrics, then sighed. “Isn’t it nice to know that no matter what, we don’t have to worry because Jesus promises to take care of us?”

Juli gave the lamb one final pat. “Just like Faith’s mom takes care of her.”

“Faith?”

Juli nodded. “That’s her name. I’m calling her Faith.”

Dad ruffled her hair. “That’s a really wonderful name.” • Josephine Lohr
