Today's Verse

Psalm 18:28-33 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

“Do we have to leave already?” moaned Madison as she and her family prepared to go home. They had stayed a few days with her grandparents and spent the time talking, joking, and enjoying just being together. Now the time had come to say goodbye—a long goodbye because in less than a week, Madison’s family was leaving for Peru to serve as missionaries.

Grandma put an arm around Madison. “We’ll miss you so much, but we can stay in touch easily and do video calls with each other.”

“I know. That helps,” said Madison.

“We’ll be praying for each other too,” Grandpa said. “Time goes fast, and before you know it, we’ll be together again.”

“We’d better be going,” said Mom. “It looks like fog is settling in. I don’t like driving through fog.” Since they had brought several items to store in their grandparents’ attic, Mom had driven the family car while Dad drove a truck they had borrowed.

“The fog lights on this truck will pierce through the mist pretty well, so I’ll lead the way,” said Dad. “Keep your eyes on my taillights. I won’t go very fast. Just trust me, and I’m sure you’ll do fine.”

When they left, Mom nervously gripped the steering wheel, but as Madison and the other kids sang songs, she gradually relaxed. It was tiring, however, and everyone was glad when they finally got home.

“I think God used this fog to prepare us for the work He’s called us to do,” Dad noted after they said a prayer of thanks for their safe arrival.

“You’re right,” said Mom. “I couldn’t see very far ahead in the fog, but I had your taillights to guide me. And we have Jesus Himself to guide us as we go to Peru to tell others about Him.”

“Yes,” said Dad. “Because we’re going to an unfamiliar country, the future seems foggy to us. The people, customs, and language are unfamiliar, and we don’t know what’s ahead. But God knows all about it. He’ll take care of us.”

Madison smiled. “God helped us drive through that fog tonight, and He’ll help us during any foggy times in Peru too.”
