Today's Verse

1 Corinthians 3:9-15 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

I want a soapbox race car exactly like the one you had when you won the soapbox derby as a kid, Dad,” said Jase. “You said you saved the directions for making it, right?” Dad nodded, and they went to the attic to look for the papers they needed.

Dad opened an old chest and took out some yellowed papers. “Here they are! The plans for the car. You’re sure you want to use these to build your soapbox racer?”

“Of course I do,” said Jase. “I want it to be just like yours.”

“Well, mine did win its race, but maybe there are newer and better plans now,” said Dad.

“Nope. I want it just like that one,” said Jase. “I know I can trust it.”

“Okay, we’ll build it,” said Dad. “Let’s look over these plans and then go find the materials we need.”

As they worked on building the car together over the next few days, Jase and his father had several long talks. “This is a really big project,” said Jase one day. “I’m glad we found the old instructions. Your car was the best—better than any of the newer ones. It won its race, so we know it’s good.”

“True,” said Dad. “That’s a good reminder for an even bigger, more important project you’re working on.”

“A bigger one? What do you mean? This racer is the only project I’ve got going right now.”

“I was referring to the project of building your life,” Dad explained. “As Christians, we need to look to Jesus as our model. He saved us and has given us the materials we need to build a good life that shows others who He is.”

“Kind of like how we’re using your car as the model for mine,” said Jase. “And I bet I know where to find the instructions for building my life—the Bible!”

“Yep,” Dad said. “Though the Bible is much more than a set of instructions—it’s God’s Word. It tells us how much He loves us and what He’s done to save us. It never gets old or outdated, because God never changes. We can always look to Him to guide us in His plan for building our lives.” Patricia C. Singletary

How about you?

Are you building your life with Jesus as your model? Are you trusting Him to provide you with the materials you need? If you know Him as your Savior, He is helping you build your life according to His plan. He’s also given you His Word, the Bible, to instruct and encourage you as you live your life for Him. Trust Him to help you build a life that He will reward.
