Today's Verse

Isaiah 43:10-13 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

“Look at this!” Andrew pointed to a news story on his mom’s laptop. “‘Thousands Attend Rally for Self-Proclaimed Messiah.’ How can anybody believe that? Everyone knows that Jesus is the Messiah—the only Savior.”

“No, Andrew,” Mom said. “Many people have no idea who Jesus is.”

Later that day, as Andrew waited in line at the bank with his mom, they heard the teller talking with a customer. “Mr. Pell, do you know where you got this?” the teller asked as she held out a one hundred-dollar bill.

“Why, no,” replied Mr. Pell. “We take them at my store almost every day. Is something wrong with that one?”

“There may be,” replied the teller. “We’ve been warned that counterfeit bills are being circulated in this area. Our manager will need to check this.”

When Andrew and his mother got up to the counter, Andrew spoke to the teller. “How did you know that was a counterfeit bill?”

“Well, I don’t know for sure, but part of our training is to study bills, and I’ve handled and examined them for years,” the teller said. “When you’re well-acquainted with the real ones, it’s easier to spot the counterfeits.”

On the way home, Andrew thoughtfully studied a dollar bill. “I get it now,” he said. “People are fooled by those claiming to be the Messiah because they don’t know the real Savior.”

“You’re right,” said Mom. “If we have a relationship with the real Messiah—Jesus Christ—and get to know Him better by studying His Word and talking with Him, we’re less likely to be led astray by those claiming to be someone who can save the world. The only person who can save us is Jesus.”

Andrew continued to look at the bill in his hand. A twinkle came to his eye. “I sure wish I had a bunch of one hundred-dollar bills so I could get to know just what they look and feel like. Then I wouldn’t be fooled into taking a counterfeit one.” He grinned at Mom. “Can you help me out with that?”

Mom laughed. “No, but I’ll help you learn your Bible verses so you’ll know what God says and won’t be fooled by lies.” • Barbara J. Westberg

How about you?

Do you know Jesus Christ—the only Savior of the world? You can know Him today by trusting in Him. (See “Have You Heard the Good News?” on page 102.) Then get to know Him better by spending time with Him. Talk with Him, and read His Word, the Bible. When you know Him personally, you won’t be easily fooled by the false claims of those who say there’s another way to be saved apart from Jesus.
