Today's Verse

Psalm 139:13-14 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

The wax museum—filled with extremely realistic full-size figures of famous people—went completely dark the instant the storm cut the electricity.

Courtney crouched low. “Jimmy—where are you?”

“I’m over here.”

Courtney crawled toward his voice and grabbed onto his leg. “Why did I go into the monster exhibit with you? I should’ve stayed with Mom and Dad.”

“I’ll turn on my phone flashlight,” Jimmy said.

The instant the light came on, Courtney screamed. She wasn’t holding onto Jimmy, but onto the leg of the eight-foot Frankenstein monster! She ran to Jimmy.

Jimmy laughed. “He can’t hurt you. He’s just a wax dummy.”

“Dummy nothin’, he’s smart enough to scare me!” Courtney said.

Seconds later, Mom and Dad came in with their phone flashlights on.

“We’re okay,” Jimmy said. “Frankenstein scared Courtney.”

Mom patted Courtney’s back. “He looks so real—and scary!”

Dad read the display sign. “Mary Shelley published her famous novel, Frankenstein, in 1818. In the story, Victor Frankenstein was a scientist who created a living creature.”

“We’ve read her book,” Mom said. “The scientist, Dr. Frankenstein, abandons his creation after bringing it to life. The creature is filled with anger at being rejected by his creator, and he begins to do monstrous deeds.”

“Wow. I can’t believe Dr. Frankenstein just left the creature he created like that!” said Courtney.

Mom nodded. “He’s nothing like our Creator.”

“That’s right,” Dad said. “Dr. Frankenstein ran away from his creation, but the Bible says God loves us and will never leave us.”

“And being rejected by his creator drove the monster to do bad things,” Mom added. “But we were the ones who rejected God when we chose to sin. Yet God still loved us so much, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins so our relationship with Him could be restored.”

“Wow,” Courtney said. “God really is a fantastic Creator!”

“Yeah,” Jimmy said. “Even though we acted like monsters, He saved us.”

Courtney nodded. “That’s why I’ll never run away from my loving Creator.” She pointed at the wax Frankenstein monster. “If I did, I’d be a bigger dummy than him!” (Matt Shoemaker)

How about you?

Do you trust and obey your loving Creator? Or are you trying to run away from Him? God created us, and even though we acted like monsters and rejected Him by choosing to sin, He still loved us and sent Jesus to save us. He will never abandon us. Stop running away and trust in Him!
