Today's Verse

Acts 1:6-8 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

Camryn went to her brother’s room holding a slip of paper. “How in the world did you get Duke to bring me this? He came to my room and stuck his nose in my hand, and I noticed this message attached to his collar!”

Micah laughed. “I knew he could do it! I just told him, ‘Go to Camryn,’ and he trotted right off. Now we can send secret notes to each other like spies! Take him back to your room and try sending him to me.” Camryn eagerly agreed, and the kids sent Duke back and forth, carrying their messages.

A while later, the kids got some cookies from the kitchen to munch on while they did their homework. As Micah worked on his math lesson, he wished he had another cookie. Maybe Camryn has one left, he thought. I’ll ask her. So Micah wrote a note and fastened it on Duke’s collar. “Go to Camryn, Duke,” he said, and the dog trotted out of the room. Micah waited and waited. Finally, he went to Camryn’s room to check on his messenger.

“He never got here,” Camryn told him.

The kids went downstairs and learned that Mom had let Duke out into the yard. Micah laughed when he found his messenger chasing a rabbit.

“I hope we’re all better messengers than that,” said Mom when she heard about Duke’s new job.

Micah look confused. “I’m not a messenger for anybody.”

“All Christians are called to be God’s messengers,” Mom told him. “Many people don’t know that Jesus loves them and that He died and rose again to save them. They don’t know He’s coming back one day to make everything right, and we need to get the message out! We need to tell people about Jesus and show them His love. But sometimes we get distracted by things like our own comfort or what others think of us, and we forget to share the good news of Jesus with others.”

Tired from running, Duke came over and flopped down on the grass. Camryn took Micah’s note from the dog’s collar and read it. “Sorry, Micah, but I already ate all my cookies. Duke didn’t deliver your message in time.” She grinned. “At least this will help us remember how important it is for us to deliver God’s message!”

How about you?

What kind of messenger are you? Maybe you’ve never thought of yourself as a messenger before, but if you know Jesus as your Savior, He’s called you to share the good news of His love and salvation with the world. Don’t let anything distract you from doing that, because nothing is more important than helping others know they can have eternal life with Jesus. Be a faithful messenger for Him.
