The Lost Backpack
“Mom, do you know where my backpack is? I can’t find it anywhere, and I have to leave for the bus soon,” Kalie said as she frantically ran from room to room.
“Where do you remember seeing it last?” Mom asked.
Kalie stopped to think. “Oh no! I think I left it at Grandma’s last night. What am I going to do? It has my homework in it that’s due today!”
“I guess we’ll have to go get it and then I’ll take you to school,” Mom said as she grabbed her car keys.
When they got to Grandma’s house, Kalie knocked loudly, but there was no answer. “She’s not answering the door, Mom,” Kalie said, coming back to the car.
“That’s not like her. She’s usually up by 6:00.” Mom turned off the car and went and unlocked the door.
“Help!” Grandma called. They ran to the kitchen, where Grandma had tripped and fallen and was not able to get up. Mom called for an ambulance, and soon Grandma was on her way to the hospital.
When they got to the emergency room, Mom went back with Grandma while Kalie sat in the waiting room. Soon her dad joined her.
“Have you heard anything yet?” Dad asked as he sat down next to her.
“No, but Mom said she would come and tell me as soon as they knew something,” Kalie said.
Just then Mom walked out. “They’re taking Grandma for X-rays right now. They think her hip may be broken, and she may need surgery.”
Tears pooled in Kalie’s eyes. “What if Grandma is never able to walk again?” she asked as she began to cry.
Mom gave her a hug. “I’m not sure what’s going to happen. We just have to trust Jesus. He saved us and promises to work everything in our lives for good. For example, this morning He used your lost backpack to help us find Grandma when she needed us. No matter what happens with Grandma, we can trust Him to be with us and work it out.”
Kalie wiped her eyes. “Can we pray?” she asked. Her parents smiled and nodded, and as she prayed with her family, Kalie knew she could trust Jesus no matter what happened. Melissa Yeagle
How about you?
Do you know Jesus as your Savior? If you do, He is always with you and will help you with whatever you face. He doesn’t promise that you won’t go through difficulties or face problems in your life, but He does promise to help you through them and use them for good, even when you can’t see how. Trust Him to work out everything for good.
