Today's Verse

John 14:1-4 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

“No peeking!” said Marcus as he bounded down the steps, shut the basement door, and clicked the lock. Toby’s big brother had been working on a secret project for the past week, and nobody was allowed to go into the basement. He had pestered Marcus constantly for a glimpse, only to get a sly grin and a “not yet.” Toby could only guess what it could be by the sounds of saws and hammers.

Marcus peeped his head out of the door and called, “Hey, Toby, can you bring me a soda?”

Toby smirked. “Only if you tell me what you’re building down there.”

Marcus laughed. “No way! Besides, you know it’s going to be something amazing, right? I’ll give you one hint. It’s for you.”

“Really?” Toby was surprised. “For me? You’d really make something just for me?”

“Sure! You’re a pretty great little brother, and I thought you deserved a gift from me. I know it’s been hard since Dad’s been away, and I just wanted you to have something good to look forward to. I promise I’ll show it to you as soon as I’m finished.” Marcus grinned. “You know, I’m not the only one making something spectacular for you.”

“What! Is Mom making me a chocolate peanut butter cake?” Toby asked.

“I don’t know anything about a cake, but I do know that in the Bible, Jesus told His followers that He was going to prepare a place for all believers. Since you became a Christian last year, that means you too,” explained Marcus. “He’s working on our eternal home right now, and one day, when He returns, that place will be ready and we will live there forever. I don’t know exactly what it will look like, but if Jesus is making it, it’s got to be awesome!”

“I heard heaven even has streets of gold or something,” said Toby.

“But the best part about heaven isn’t the gold streets; it’s being with Jesus,” replied Mark. “And the best thing about my project is getting to spend time using it together when I’m finished! You can trust my promise, but even more than that, you can trust Jesus’ promise to make you an eternal home with Him.” • Kendra Angle

How about you?

Do you wonder what God has planned for you? Sometimes we get impatient not knowing exactly what the future holds. Will we get married? What kind of job will we have? Will we have kids? While He doesn’t give us a sneak peek into our future here on earth, Jesus does promise that Christians will have a place with Him for all eternity. That is definitely something to look forward to!
