Today's Verse

Psalm 121 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

Leo stayed close to his parents and older brother as they walked down their neighborhood street. They had gone for a walk just as the sun was setting, and now it was dark. Leo grabbed his dad’s hand during the darkest parts of the walk, in between streetlights. When Leo and Ron saw their own house lit up by a nearby streetlight, they raced to the door.

“Okay, boys, time for bed,” said Dad as they entered the house. The boys said good night and went to their separate rooms. But a few minutes later, Leo yelled for his mom.

Mom came and sat down on his bed. “What’s wrong, Leo?”

“I keep thinking about the movie Ron and I watched this afternoon,” Leo said. “It was scary, and I don’t want to be alone in my room.”

Mom straightened Leo’s blanket over his shoulders and stroked his hair. “Leo, you know that was just a movie. It wasn’t real.”

Leo nodded his head slowly. “And I know that you and Dad and Ron are in the house, and I’m not really by myself,” he said. “But I feel safer when you’re in my room, talking to me.”

Mom looked thoughtful. “You felt safe when you held Dad’s hand while we were walking in the dark tonight, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” Leo replied. “I know Dad will protect me because he’s strong and he loves me.”

“Leo, do you remember when you trusted Jesus as your Savior a couple of years ago?” Mom asked.

“Yes,” Leo said.

“When you invited Him to be the Lord of your life, He put his Holy Spirit inside you,” Mom said. “God is always with you, no matter what. You felt safe holding Dad’s hand when you were outside in the dark. But even when Dad and I aren’t with you, God is with you. He is very, very strong, and He loves you so much He sent Jesus to die for you so you could have eternal life.”

Leo smiled. “So, when I feel scared, I can talk to God?”

“Definitely,” Mom said. “God wants you to talk to Him every day, especially when you need help or feel afraid.”

“Okay,” said Leo. “Let’s talk to God right now.” Lara Gatica

How about you?

Do you ever feel afraid when you’re in bed at night, or after watching something scary on TV? Talk to God about it, and remember how amazing His love is for you. God loves you so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for your sins so that you could live with Him forever. Talk to Him when you’re afraid. He is your strong Protector, and He will always be with you and watch over you.

Today's Verse

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (NIV) Psalm 46:1 NKJV
