Today's Verse

Luke 12:22-30 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

“Hi, Grandpa,” said Audrey as her grandfather came into the kitchen. “We’re fixing a special anniversary dinner for Mom and Dad. They’ll be here in a few hours.” Grandpa smiled, but he looked troubled.

“Didn’t the town meeting go well?” Grandma asked. Grandpa shook his head.

“What was it about?” Audrey asked, going to the cupboard to get the sugar.

“Well, the city needs to fix a major pipeline—the one that brings water way out here to the farm. While it’s being fixed, they plan to ban watering. It’s been so hot this year that our crops could die without water.” Grandpa sighed. “I went to see if they would reconsider, but they wouldn’t budge.”

“Then I guess we’ll just have to pray about it,” said Grandma.

“Do you really think praying will help?” Audrey asked. “I mean, God has much bigger problems to work on, doesn’t He? Things like earthquakes and wars and floods, for example.”

“Yes, but He’s also interested in all the little details of our lives,” Grandpa assured her. “He loves us as His children and wants us to look to Him for help with any problem we have.”

Audrey turned from the cupboard. “I can’t find the sugar.”

“Oh no!” said Grandma. “I must have forgotten to get it at the store today.”

“Then we can’t make Mom’s favorite coconut cake!” said Audrey. “Does God care about that too?”

Just then they heard a knock at the door, and Grandpa went to open it. “Harve! Come on in,” he said to the man who lived next door.

“My niece made this coconut crème cake,” said the neighbor, “but my doctor has me on what I call an all-cardboard diet. I came over to see if you want this.”

“Yes, we do!” Audrey exclaimed. “You’re right, Grandpa. God cares about all our needs!”

A few weeks later, Grandma called. “Guess what, Audrey? Our prayers have been answered. The ban on water hasn’t been a problem. In fact, Grandpa says if it rains any more, he might need help building an ark.” Audrey laughed. “God won’t always answer your prayers in exactly the way you’d like,” Grandma added, “but you can be sure that He does care about all your problems, big or small.” Joanne Moldonato

How about you?

Do you have a problem that you think is too small for God to care about? Maybe you have a difficult test coming up at school, or you’re having a hard time making friends in a new neighborhood. Your heavenly Father cares for the birds, the flowers, and especially you. He knows what you need. No problem is too big or too small to share with Him.
