Today's Verse

John 9:13-15, 24-25 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

Dante headed for his classroom at church. He was eager to see his friends once more, but he knew this would be a day of goodbyes. His heart felt heavy thinking about it. This was the last day he’d be with this class before his family moved to another town.

After discussing the lesson, Mr. Rogers moved to stand next to Dante. “I think you all know that Dante will be moving next week. We’re going to miss him,” he said, looking around the room. “But remember that, even though it’s sad to say goodbye, all those who know Jesus as their Savior will see each other again in heaven.” Mr. Rogers looked from one student to another. “Wouldn’t it be great to have a class reunion there? I’ll be there, and I wonder—will all of you be there too?”

It was quiet in the room for a moment, then Dante spoke up. “I will. I trust Jesus as my Savior, so I’ll see you again in heaven.”

Mr. Rogers smiled and nodded as one kid after another said they trusted in Jesus and would someday be with Him in heaven.

As the boys said goodbye at the end of the class period, Dante didn’t feel quite so bad about leaving. I’ll see these guys again someday, he thought with a smile. I forgot about that. I’ll see Topher and Sanjay and Ethan and…The smile left his face as the name of another boy came to mind. It was the name of one of his friends at school. Carter, he thought. I don’t know whether Carter is a Christian. I’ve never asked him, and if he’s not, I might never see him again after we move. I’m going to talk to him about it when I see him at school tomorrow. I want him to know Jesus and live with Him forever too!

Dante left the class with a new determination to tell his friends about Jesus in the remaining days he would spend at his old school—and in the coming days when he would make friends at his new school as well. Ruth I. Jay

How about you?

Do you feel sad and lonely when a friend moves away? Do your friends know Jesus? You and your friends who are Christians can enjoy good times together now, and you can also look forward to being together with Jesus in heaven. But what about those who don’t know Jesus? Will you—like the healed blind man in today’s Bible reading—boldly tell them what Jesus has done in your life?
