Moving in Faithfulness
Braden pulled the bill of his cap down to hide the tears that were threatening to spill down his cheeks. He took a deep breath and focused on his house out the car window, watching it grow smaller and smaller until he could barely see it. Why, God? he prayed as a tear escaped. Why do we have to leave everyone and everything we know and move so far away?
Dad’s eyes connected with Braden’s in the rearview mirror. “Braden, I’m so sorry. I know you’re really going to miss your friends and the house. This isn’t easy for any of us.”
Mom turned around and patted Braden’s hand. “Do you remember the story in the Bible about Abraham’s move?”
“Yeah. God told him to leave his country and his people, and he went.”
“Could you imagine if we had to move with no idea where we would end up next, like Abraham?” Dad asked.
“That would be crazy!” Braden said.
“It would require some crazy faith,” Mom said with a smile.
Dad flicked the wipers on as a light rain began to fall. “Abraham’s move set events in motion that would eventually lead to the birth of Jesus from Abraham’s family line. God used Abraham’s faithful obedience to bring all of us the blessing of salvation.”
“And we’re being faithful by going where God wants us, even if we don’t understand all His reasons,” Mom said. “We have to remember that He was willing to give up His Son to save us and to trust His promise to use everything in our lives for good.”
Dad turned the wipers off as sun streamed through the car windows.
Braden leaned his head against the window and gasped. “Mom, Dad, look! There’s a huge rainbow!” The bright colors were striking against the gray sky. “I think God is reminding us that no matter where we go, He will be faithful to us and help us.”
Dad nodded. “I think you’re right, buddy.”
Braden’s face broke into a grin. “I may not like that we have to move, but I’m glad we’re being faithful and going where God leads. And no matter where we go, we will always have Jesus!” – Savannah Coleman
