Today's Verse

Proverbs 3:5-10 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

“Did we get more puzzle pieces from Aunt Carrie?” Jillian asked when Dad came in with the mail.

Aunt Carrie, an artist, was sending the kids a copy of a picture she had painted—but instead of sending the whole picture, she had cut it into pieces. Every few days she sent more pieces for them to put together. “See how soon you can figure out what the picture is,” she had challenged them.

“No new puzzle pieces today,” Dad said with a sigh. “Just more bills.”

“But I want to know what she drew!” Dennis said, obviously disappointed. “I think it might be a fishing boat. She lives on a lake.”

“Nah! I think it’s a—” Jillian stopped when she noticed Dad shuffling through the bills. “Everything all right, Dad?”

Dad looked up. “What? Oh, everything’s fine. I—” He stopped. “Okay, everything’s not fine, but God will get us through it.”

Jillian shook her head. “It’s not fair! You were the best manager at your company, Dad. Why did God let you get laid off?”

Dad looked at the puzzle pieces. “Dennis thinks that’s a picture of a boat. You don’t. And I sure don’t know.” He looked at the kids. “Why don’t we know what it is?”

“Because too many of the puzzle pieces are still missing,” Dennis replied.

“Yeah,” Jillian said. “So far it’s mostly the outside edges that are done, so nobody knows what the actual picture looks like.”

Dennis disagreed. “Somebody knows,” he said. “Aunt Carrie knows.”

“That’s right,” said Dad, “and that sounds a lot like what’s been going on here lately. We’re going through some tough times, but we see only part of our life-picture right now—just like we can only see part of the picture your aunt drew. But she knows what the whole picture is, and God knows the whole picture of our lives.”

Dennis was thoughtful. “Do you think someday we’ll see what God knew all along?”

“Perhaps,” replied Dad, “but right now we simply need to trust Him in all we do. He sent His Son, Jesus, to save us, and He promises to take care of us. In His time, He’ll show us the piece of our life-puzzle that we need next.” – Mike Dize

How about you?

Do you have trouble seeing how all the puzzle pieces of your life fit together? You can’t see the whole picture of your life, but God can. He sent His Son to die so you could be saved, and He has a plan for your life. When you think the pieces don’t fit together right, remember that you belong to Jesus and trust Him to guide you and take care of you.
