Today's Verse

Isaiah 43:1–3; Matthew 10:29–31 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

Jamie and her mom were sitting at the kitchen table as the morning sun streamed through the window. BANG! They both screamed as something flew into it.

Jamie’s brother David came running. “What’s wrong?” They all peered out the window.

“Oh, poor thing!” Jamie pointed to a robin lying still in the snow. David slid the glass door open, and Mom bent down and gently picked up the bird. “She’s alive, kids! Poor bird must have been shocked that we got all this snow in late April. We’ll just hold her until she gets out of her stunned state.”

Jamie and David took turns holding the robin, keeping her warm and gently petting her soft feathers.

“Isn’t it amazing to feel her little heart beating under all those feathers?” Mom asked.

“Yeah, she’s just so light!” Jamie exclaimed in wonder.

“Hitting the window that hard must have hurt a lot,” David noted. “It’s a good thing we were here to help her!”

A few minutes later, the robin shook her head, let out a chirp, and flew off to the nearest tree.

“Yay! She can fly! She’s okay!” The kids rejoiced as Mom led them inside to wash their hands.

“Seeing you kids hold that robin in your hands reminded me of how God holds us,” Mom told them.

“But how come God let her fly into the window and get hurt in the first place?” David asked with a frown.

Mom gave her kids a squeeze. “Because we live in a sinful, broken world, bad things happen to everyone, but God sees us. He is in control of everything, and we are always in His hands. Did you know there is a Bible verse that says God sees and knows every single sparrow that falls to the ground?”

“Just like He saw our robin and let us rescue her!” David said.

Mom tousled David’s hair. “It goes on to say that we don’t have to be afraid because we are worth more than many sparrows to God. He loves us so much He sent His Son to save us from sin and brokenness and give us eternal life. Even when bad things happen, Jesus promises to be with us. He will hold us no matter what!”

How about you?

Are you ever stunned by fear or pain? Do you wonder why God would allow certain things to happen in your life? Jesus never promised us a trouble-free life but He does promise that He will always be with us. He saved you so you could have eternal life with Him, and He will never leave you. Nothing can separate you from His loving hands.
