Today's Verse

Cameron gripped the handles of his scooter tighter as he went airborne. The wheels landed smoothly on the pavement, and he grinned wide.

“Awesome!” His sister, Summer, grinned and gave him a thumbs-up as she pulled her scooter up beside him.

“Kids!” Mom beckoned them from a table laden with colorful fruits and veggies at the local farmer’s market. “I need you both to come carry a bag to the car for me.”

The kids looked at each other and groaned as they sped their scooters to the table. “Mom, we were right in the middle of practicing our jumps!” Cameron protested as he grabbed a bag Mom held out to him.

“Yeah,” Summer said, pouting. “We always have to help carry stuff!”

The vendor behind a nearby table leaned forward and asked, “Would you like to try a sample of our peaches?” He handed fresh peaches to Mom and the kids.

Summer’s eyes grew wide with delight as she bit into the juicy peach. “This is the best peach I’ve ever tasted!”

“Mmmhmm! Way better than those gross ones we ate last week,” Cameron agreed, his mouth full of fruity goodness.

Mom smiled at the vendor. “We’ll take some. Thank you, that was very kind.”

“Yeah, thank you!” the kids echoed happily.

“Kids, what kind of fruit do you think you were when I asked you for help with the bags?” Mom asked as they loaded the food into the trunk.

Cameron sighed. “Not good.”

“We forgot about what we read during devotions this morning, how we are supposed to show others that we belong to Jesus by the way we live our lives,” Summer said sadly.

Mom nodded. “Because we trust in Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit in us to help us bring God glory through the words we speak and the way we act. When we follow His direction, we show others that there is something different about us—something sweet and delicious, like good fruit.”

“We’re sorry, Mom. Next time, I’ll think about my attitude being like those tasty peaches!” Summer declared with a grin.

“Yeah!” Cameron winked. “No one wants a rotten one!”

How about you?

Do you ever think about your life being like a tree that produces good or bad fruit? If you belong to Jesus, you have His Spirit in you to help you live in ways that will bring Him glory and show others His love. Trust Him to help you bear good fruit in your life, and when you mess up, ask for His forgiveness.
