Today's Verse

PSALM 77:10-15 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

“A scrapbook!” Ava exclaimed as she opened a birthday present her aunt had sent. “I can put all my favorite drawings and awards and stuff in it. This is so cool!”

Soon Ava was eagerly at work, sorting through old school papers, report cards, and drawings. “These math problems look so easy now,” she said, tossing aside an old test.

“They didn’t look so easy a year ago, did they?” Mom said. “I remember how hard you studied, and then we prayed together about each test.”

Ava nodded. “I remember that.”

“Why don’t you save a few of those papers to help you remember how God answered your prayer?” suggested Mom.

As Ava set aside a few of the old tests, her dog came in and began sniffing the pages. Ava laughed. “I guess Bootsie wants us to put something in the scrapbook so we can remember her too.”

“Not a bad idea,” replied Mom. “It’s good to remember all of God’s blessings, whether they’re problems He’s helped us with, family, pets, or friends.”

“Bootsie sure has been a good pet,” said Ava. “I’ll put a few pictures of her in my scrapbook.” She held up another snapshot. “Here’s one of our house. I’ll put that in too.” Ava soon had several pages finished. “Look at my scrapbook now, Mom. It will remind me of lots of God’s blessings.”

Mom went to look. “Very nice! Instead of calling it a scrapbook, you could call it God’s Goodness Book.”

Ava giggled. “That sounds like what Grandma calls the Bible—she calls it the Good Book.”

“And it’s true—the Bible is full of God’s goodness,” said Mom. “It tells us how He answered prayer and cared for people way back in Bible times—and most importantly, how He sent Jesus to save us from sin and make us His children. When we look back on our own lives and remember how God has blessed us, we can see how Jesus has cared for us and know that we can always trust Him.”

“God’s Goodness Book,” Ava repeated thoughtfully. “I like it! The next drawing I’m going to add is a picture of a cross to remind me how good He is to me.” JORLYN A. GRASSER

How about you?

How has God shown you His goodness in your life? Take a moment to look back and see how He’s blessed you. Think about how He helped you in the past with schoolwork, a family problem, or other difficulties. Read about how He helped people in the Bible, and how Jesus died and rose again to save us from sin. He has not changed. You can trust Him to help you and take care of you.
