Today's Verse

Matthew 28:18-20 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

“So, how was your first day?” Mom asked.

Merrie stared out the window at the passing scenery. “Pretty good. A girl named Danielle offered to show me around. If it weren’t for her, I would’ve been pretty helpless. That school is huge!”

Mom adjusted the rearview mirror to see her better. “I’m glad you found a friend so quickly. She sounds nice!”

Merrie frowned. “Actually, she seemed pretty shy. Every time I asked her anything, she turned bright pink and just mumbled the answer.”

“Really?” asked Mom. “I wonder why she decided to help you if she’s so shy.”

“Well, she said she moved here at the beginning of the year, so probably because she knows how it feels.” Merrie laughed. “That and our teacher asked her to show me around.”

Just then they passed by the new church they’d joined on Sunday. “Did you find out if Danielle goes to church anywhere? I wonder if she knows Jesus.”

Merrie sighed. “I’m too scared to talk to people about that, Mom. Not everybody believes in Jesus like we do.”

“That’s exactly why Jesus wants us to tell them,” said Mom.

Merrie leaned her head against the window and didn’t answer.

“What if Danielle had refused to do what your teacher asked her to and show you around today?” Mom asked.

Merrie raised her head. “I would have been miserable. I would have felt lost.”

“Do you think it was easy for Danielle to overcome her shyness to help you?”

Merrie shook her head. “It was really brave of her.”

Mom nodded. “You would have been lost without Danielle helping you at school, and we would be lost without Jesus saving us from sin. That’s why Jesus wants us to tell people about Him. It can be scary, but He’ll be with you and give you courage so you can reach out to those who desperately need Him.”

When they finally pulled in the driveway, Merrie smiled. “Could I invite Danielle over this weekend? I think both of us could use a friend. Maybe you could even, um, help me talk to her?”

Mom smiled into the rearview mirror. “That sounds like a great idea!” – Rebekah Love Dorris

How about you?

Have you ever felt afraid to talk to people about Jesus? It can be scary sometimes, but don’t let your shyness get in the way of telling others what Jesus has done for them. You know Jesus because someone was brave enough to tell you about Him, and He wants you to spread the word to others who don’t know Him. Trust Him to be with you and help you as you share His love with others.
