Today's Verse

Romans 10:13-15 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Bible version changes do not affect the Key audio or "Today's Key Verse," below.

“I hope Maisie can go to the party at church this weekend,” Lana said as her family sat down for dinner. “Our class was invited by the junior high group we’ll be in next year, and I’m afraid I won’t know anyone if Maisie doesn’t go. If she can’t, I don’t know what I’ll do!” Lana sighed dramatically. “I already picked out my outfit and everything. I’m going to wear my new blue shirt—the lady at the store said it’s just the right color for my eyes.”

“Well, if Maisie can’t go, maybe you could go with Brooke,” Mom suggested.

Lana made a face. “I don’t think so. Brooke is so…so plain, if you know what I mean. She doesn’t know how to make her hair look good, and her clothes are so boring.”

“She looks all right to me,” said Lana’s brother, Boyd.

“And she has beautiful feet,” Dad put in.

Lana stared at him. Beautiful feet? she thought. That’s an odd thing to say. She changed the subject, not wanting to hear any more opinions about Brooke.

Later that week, Lana showed off her new haircut at the dinner table. “Everyone loves my hair this way,” she said. “Aunt Karen said it suits my face and I’m really blossoming.”

“Oh, brother!” said Boyd, rolling his eyes.

“Oh, and Maisie can go to the party after all! I’m so relieved.” Lana turned to her father. “By the way, Dad, we had swimming in phys ed today, and I looked at Brooke’s feet. They look like ordinary feet to me. I didn’t see anything so beautiful about them.”

Dad smiled and reached for a Bible. “For devotions tonight, let’s read Romans 10:13-15.” After reading the verses, Dad said, “I can think of at least two people Brooke has brought to church, and I know she also volunteers at the nursing home and shares God’s love with the people there. So, according to the Bible, Brooke has beautiful feet—not because of their physical appearance, but because she uses them to go where Jesus wants her to and tell others about Him. And that’s far more important than having a beautiful face.”

“Yeah,” said Boyd, “though there’s nothing wrong with her face either!” – Hazel Marett

How about you?

What kind of feet do you have? Are they beautiful feet? They are if you’re using them to go tell others about Jesus. The Bible doesn’t commend a beautiful face, but it speaks highly of beautiful feet. It’s okay to want to look your best, but don’t let that get in the way of what’s really important. How can you let others know about Jesus and share His love with them?
