Today's Verse

Revelation 21:1-4 in KJV, NKJV, NIV, ERV

Tony burst into the house with his sister right on his heels. “Mom—tell Kim she’s totally wrong.”

“No, I’m right!” Kim pushed past him. “Mom, heaven is perfect and wonderful, right?”

Mom nodded. “In every way.”

Kim pointed at Tony. “See? I’m right.”

Tony shook his head. “She thinks there’ll be boring shopping malls in heaven!”

Kim closed her eyes and had a dreamy look on her face. “There’s nothing boring about malls. And in heaven, they’ll be open from eight o’clock to eternity, all the clothes will be free, they’ll always have your size, and no need to return anything—ever!”

Mom grinned. “Well, I have to agree with Kim on one thing—malls aren’t boring. Did you know the Mall of America in Minnesota is the largest in the country? It took three years to build and has over five hundred stores. It’s so large it even has an amusement park and an aquarium!”

“That sounds awesome,” Tony said. “That’s the only mall I’d go to.”

“But,” Mom said, “as to whether there will be malls in heaven—I don’t really know. I know that when Jesus returns and makes the whole world new, He will provide everything we need. But I don’t know if that will include malls or not.”

Tony sat down at the table. “Heaven’s going to be great—even if there aren’t any malls.”

“Easy for you to say. You don’t like malls,” Kim said. “If there’s no shopping, heaven sounds boring to me.”

Mom shook her head. “God’s there, so it will never be boring.”

“Yeah,” Tony said. “Just look at the mountains and oceans and animals we have now.”

“Right,” said Mom. “Even in this sinful and broken world, the beauty of God’s creation is all around us. Imagine how amazing it will be when He makes everything new and perfect!”

Kim stared at her for a moment. “Well, when you put it that way…”

“There’s more,” Mom said. “The Bible says that in heaven, our bodies will be changed so that we’ll live forever.”

Tony raised his eyebrows. “New bodies so we can live forever—with God. It doesn’t get much better than that!”

“Okay. I admit it,” Kim said. “Heaven does sound amazing—even without shopping malls!” -Matt Shoemaker

How about you?

Do you ever wonder what heaven will be like? The Bible doesn’t say whether there will be things like malls there, but it does say the new world Jesus creates when He returns will be more wonderful than anything we can imagine. There will be no sin or pain or death, and we will have new bodies that will live forever. If you know Jesus as your Savior, you can look forward to living in heaven with Him!
