Everybody experiences pain, sadness and loss at one time or another.  Because we live in a broken, sin-cursed world, and we have an enemy who wants to steal our life and our joy, sorrow is inevitable.  But the good news is Jesus wants to give us ABUNDANT life or “life to the full”!  In the 10th chapter of John’s gospel, Jesus is talking to some people about how we are like sheep, Satan is like a thief and He (Jesus) is like the gate that can keep the thief out.  Starting in verse 7, He says,

"I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

That means to be safe from the thief, we have to “enter through” Jesus who is the only true gate to life.  Once we do that, not only will we be safe from the thief, but we will also find that there is abundant life to be found within.  Life that leads to healing and restoration from the pain and sadness of this world.
