Today’s Story
This Thanksgiving, the Morrisons are giving more than just thanks. This year, the plan is to help out at a local homeless shelter! But the kids are less than enthusiastic... in fact they’re a little scared. Will they learn to see beyond themselves and find something to be thankful for?
How about you…
What is your view of people in need or less fortunate than yourself? Do you “label” or “stereotype” them?
Check this out…
James, the brother of Jesus had some strong words to say to the early Christians about how we should live our faith. In the first chapter of his letter, we find this statement:
If anyone considers himself religious and
yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his
religion is worthless. Religion
that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans
and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the
world.
James is saying that it’s easy to CLAIM to have faith, but this is the way we SHOW our faith. And it’s the kind of faith that SHOWS that will really make a difference to those around us. In the next chapter, James goes on to say,
Suppose a brother or sister is without
clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep
warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is
dead.
When it comes to the issue of faith, the proof is in the pudding. There’s the living kind—the kind that shows by loving and caring for other people, and there’s the dead kind—the kind that’s all “talk” and no “walk”. Make sure yours is the living kind!
