Today’s Story
It wouldn't be a holiday at the Morrison's without celebrating their unique traditions. Mom's mysterious peas and cheese dish has a way of showing up year after year-and no one's ever eager to gobble it up!
But when Thanksgiving Day arrives-a knock at the door brings a guest they never
thought would come. And that's when dinner with the Morrisons gets about as
UN-traditional as it gets!
HOW ABOUT YOU…Are there times in your life when you don't FEEL thankful?
CHECK THIS OUT…Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (I Thes. 5:18). You might wonder how you can give thanks in ALL circumstances. The Bible doesn't say to FEEL thankful, it says to GIVE thanks-in all circumstances. That's a decision we make.
Whether holiday traditions like peas and cheese will continue is debatable. But one tradition worth carrying on is the tradition to be truly thankful-for the many things God has given you; For your family and friends, for health and strength, but mostly for God Himself.
The real test of our gratefulness is whether or not we can say "thank you" to God in the hard times-when things DON'T go our way. We can give thanks to God at times like this for two reasons: We know how much God cares for us, and we know that God has promised to work all things-even the bad things-together for good to those of us who love Him.
Maybe you're sad about something that's happened in your life. Maybe you're
scared about the circumstances in the world. God wants you to say "thank
you" to Him-trusting that He knows what He's doing, and that He'll make
things turn out okay in the end.
