Down Gilead Lane, Season 6 | Episode 8

NO GOOD THING

Season Description

When a new star quarterback comes to town, the Richters feel threatened. What they don’t see coming is an unlikely friendship that turns the threat into answered prayer.

Today’s Story

Haley has found a verse in the Psalms that seems to be telling her that God has guaranteed to “bless” her with a whole new wardrobe if she gives away all her clothes!  Could it be a coincidence that Tiffany Richter is organizing a community-wide clothing drive?  But Haley soon finds out that one verse by itself may not sound the same when it’s read along with the rest of the verses in that psalm.

How about you…

Have you ever thought the Bible was telling you one thing, but as you continued reading and studying, found that it was actually saying something else?  Have you ever claimed promises that weren’t really there?

Check this out…

Read these words from the first chapter of Philippians: “ 9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God .”  The apostle Paul wrote those words to the believers inPhilippi.  His prayer was not JUST that their knowledge and insight would abound, but that their LOVE would abound in those areas.  So, the purpose and the source of knowledge and depth of insight should be love—not selfishness.  And from verse 11, we see that the result of that kind of knowledge and depth of insight is being “filled with the fruit of righteousness ”—not earthly treasures.  But what would you rather have, earthly treasures that don’t last long at all, or “the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus ” and will last forever?
