Down Gilead Lane, Season 6 | Episode 4

JUST DESSERTS

Season Description

When a new star quarterback comes to town, the Richters feel threatened. What they don’t see coming is an unlikely friendship that turns the threat into answered prayer.

Today’s Story

Timmy Morrison is running for third grade class leader, and he has a platform that’ll make him a shoe-in—servant leadership!  But when his behavior at home doesn’t match up with his behavior at school, he finds that being “meek” is more than just a set of things you do, like holding the door, washing the chalkboard or clearing lunch trays; it’s a matter of the heart.

How about you...
Have you ever tried to find favor with people (friends, teachers, even parents) without really truly caring for them?

Check this out...
In two letters to two different churches, a man named Paul described the ultimate reason why we serve others.  In Galatians1:10, he says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”  To another church on another occasion, he writes, “…we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed--God is our witness.” (I Thessalonians 2:4-5).  You see, a servant serves his master.  Each of us has a master, either our selfish desires (which may involve pleasing other people to make ourselves feel better or get something we want) or Jesus (who tells us to love and serve those around us).  Serving others is a good thing.  Just make sure you check your motives.  Ask yourself, “Who am I really serving here…who is my master?”
