In the midst of chaos, a journey to ancient Palestine may provide some direction.  Like Grace, Hope and Tim, it may be a good idea to take a look at what the life of Abraham when he was required to face the worst thing he could imagine happening.  As you know, we waited for 100 years to have a child: his beloved son, Isaac.  But then, just a few years later, as Abraham was really getting to love fatherhood, the Lord came to him with this request found in Genesis 22:

Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

This is the worst thing Abraham could ever imagine having to do.  But it’s when we face the worst we could imagine that God is able to show us what we value most.  He wants us to value HIM the most, so that even if the worst we could imagine comes true, we can still face it because our hope, our strength is in Him.  And He becomes our reward when we go through those difficult times—like Abraham found out when God said to Him:

"I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,  I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me."
