Today’s Story
Mr. Key’s death
was a devastating blow, leaving everyone to pick up the pieces—especially Mr.
Key’s best friend and fishing buddy, Tim.
And now, Tim is asking the hard questions, like what if Mr. Key didn’t
trust Jesus before he died? Is God
still good when our worst fears are realized?
How about
you…
Did you ever feel
like you did your part, and God let you down because He didn’t make something
happen that you thought He would?
Check this
out…
When Jesus walked the earth, he had followers called “disciples” who also felt disappointment with God for not doing what they were expecting. Jesus encouraged them with these words found at the beginning of John chapter 14,
“Do not let
your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house
are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
Unfortunately, some of his followers didn’t fully understand what an awesome plan this really was. All they heard was that Jesus was leaving, and to them, that meant a sad end to the story, because they didn’t have the eyes and ears to perceive the invisible, mystical realm of eternity. So they began to doubt His goodness. But Jesus continued with this gentle reminder,
“All this I have spoken while still with
you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world
gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
In other words, even though He was leaving, God’s presence would still be with them—in the form of the Holy Spirit. And He is still here, all these years later—inside the heart of every believer—counseling us, teaching us reminding us, and giving us that same peace that Jesus gave. So, when our hearts are troubled and it seems there’s no way a happy ending can come out of our circumstances, Jesus tells us to TRUST HIM—He is the source of true peace, and His assurance for those who trust Him is that God is with us RIGHT NOW in the form of the Holy Spirit and our forever future will be in a mansion He has prepared where we can see Him face to face!!
