Today’s Story

A secret high school party could lead to a dangerous night for careless students.  Should Anthony and his friends inform the police or just look away?  And when Maya tries to be the peacemaker between her brother and sister, it seems to just be making things worse!

How about you…
Have you ever tried to "get involved" in situations, or conflicts that you didn’t really have anything to do with?  Has anyone ever told you to "mind your own business"?

Check this out…
Proverbs 26:17 says, "Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own."  Does that mean we should never get involved in the fights, arguments and problems of other people?  What do you think Jesus meant he said, "Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God", in Matthew chapter five?  There are a lot of different explanations for the seeming contradictions in these verses.  But when you take a closer look, you can see that there is no contradiction at all.  Look at a couple key words in the Proverbs passage.  First: passer-by.  That term implies someone who just kinda notices a fight or argument as he’s walking by.  He has no relationship or connection with those involved. Maybe he gets excited by the conflict, maybe he thinks he knows more than them, but the point is he’s not getting involved out of love for the people, or the leading of the Lord.  Second word: meddles.  This is talking about someone who, instead of wanting to actually help, becomes more of a participant in the quarrel.  Without even getting to know the facts or events or people involved, he just jumps in and grabs that "dog by the ears".  A peacemaker is someone who cares more about the other people in the situation than their own pride or self-protection.  When you find yourself in the midst of a quarrel, just remember: meddling passer-by—NO; peacemaker—YES!
