his past—what might THAT be all about?
How about

The book of Acts tells some amazing stories of events that REALLY happened to the followers of Jesus after He was taken up into heaven. Take a look at this story from chapter 8 about something that REALLY happened to the disciple named Philip:
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go
south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from
Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard
the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?"
Philip asked.
"How can I," he said, "unless someone
explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
Now, we may not hear the voice of an angel speaking to us, but if the Holy Spirit is living in us, we should be sensitive to His leading, and sometimes He leads us to go somewhere or speak to someone, and we should be ready to follow Him like Philip was. Now take a look at what happened next…
Then Philip began with that very passage of
Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
As they traveled along the road, they came
to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be
baptized?" And he gave
orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the
water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of
the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but
went on his way rejoicing.
See, God put Philip there for that specific purpose, and Philip responded, fulfilled his purpose, and was used by God in this man’s life. How will YOU respond to God and be used by Him today?
