Down Gilead Lane, Season 12 | Episode 9

A NOT SO QUICK FIX

Season Description

Since we first heard from the Morrison family on a quiet road in a small town, we’ve come a long way. Kids have grown up, graduated, and moved away from home. New members have joined the family. This season , find out who’s behind Peace of Heaven, how Monica Richter can get herself out of the mess she’s in, and what significant life choices are made. Find out what happens when the pieces of the puzzle ultimately fall into place in Coleraine.

Today’s Story

Monica brings the whole Richter family together on a run away from her problems and into the unknown. Will she continue running, or will she turn toward the Peace that Caleb talks about and face the storm?

How About You?
When trouble comes you way, are you ever tempted to turn away from God and the peace that he offers, and instead worry and try to control the situation on your own?

Check This Out…
It’s so funny that as Christians, we can sing and recite verses about the peace of God, but when it comes down to practicing what we preach, when trouble comes our way we often begin to worry and solve the problem on our own.

Monica Richter is not a Christian, so she doesn’t have a place where she can find peace in herself. She is totally dependent on herself to try to get out of a very tough situation with the law. In contrast, we have her son, Caleb, who although had his plans for the weekend completely thrown off course, still had a peace about him that came from Christ.

Monica was curious about where her son could be so at rest in spite of the car breaking down and the thunderstorm striking, and so she asked him. It was only natural for Caleb to tell her where it truly came from. No doubt, this gave Monica something to think about.

That is why it is so critical for us to have faith that God will take care of us when things get difficult. Not only will it help us to be calm and give us assurance when things are scary or hard, but it will show the world that we have someone bigger than our own problems on our side.

Philippians 4:6-7 says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

This peace transcends or goes beyond all understanding. People don’t understand it, that’s how incredible the peace is. So next time something difficult comes along, let’s not conform to the patterns of this world (Romans 12:2) and be afraid, but let’s hold onto Christ who is the Prince of Peace.
